I have a cold! Does Vitamin C help? Help! Im going to Florida on Friday!?

So far, Im taking about 6,000% of Vitamin C each day among with eating salad and green leafy vegtables. I am also eating oranges and fruits and bread but I was wondering, do megadoses of Vitamin C actually shorten the length of my cold? I am taking Zicam every 3 hours to also help me shorten my cold and some pretzels each day to get my body to absorb more liquids. Will this help? And I'm also going to Orlando, FL this Friday. Help me!!

You may want to double or triple or perhaps quadruple your C intake. You should take it to bowel tolerance.

This is from a pioneer in the study of vit C

THE 100 GRAM COLD

When a person is ill the amount of ascorbic acid he can ingest without diarrhea being produced increases somewhat proportionally to the severity or the toxicity of the disease. A cold severe enough to permit a person to take 100 grams of ascorbic acid per 24 hours during the peak of the disease, I call a 100 GRAM COLD.

Reply:try eating fresh oranges or grapefruits also get some extra rest/sleep so your body can recover. Vitamin c in tablet form does help, but your body processes fresh stuff quicker. Blueberries and brocolli are generally great for all around heath too. good luck :)
Reply:Just take the recommended dose or a little bit more. Vitamin C works better as a preventative measure, but it certainly won't hurt. Get as much sleep as possible. The body fixes itself best while you sleep.
Reply:I have a cold too. I found these things called "cold-eeze". They're enhanced with vitamins that help fight colds. I find them really affective. They're a lot like cough drops, so you could probably find them at your local Walgreens, or something. They're almost like medicine though, so you want to be careful on how many you eat.

I also found that running or working out gets rid of my cold symptoms temporarily. There's actually some science behind it that has to do with some chemicals the body releases when you exercise. But, of course, it's temporary relief, so it couldn't help you actually get rid of the cold.
Reply:Take the Vitamin C, drink lots of water, eat fruit or drink fruit juice with no added sugar. Zicam is great. Mega doses of vitamin C are not necessary and in some studies they are shown to be harmful. Your best bet is to take the Zicam, drink lots of fluids, get lots of sleep and you should be ready to go and have a great time! Good luck!
Reply:The Zicam is really good , might want to try some Air Shield at your local CVS pharmacy. I don't know where you are coming from but be ready for the temp change Today was in mid 80's and supposed to get hotter but then too we are suppose to be getting a cold front 75's ...

Reply:that's allot of C your going to get a cold sore !!
Reply:You should have done all of those BEFORE you got a cold. But yes, all of those should help your immune system kick in. But don't overdose yourself with vitamin C, it can be harmful. You may start getting yellowish/orange skin. I had a friend who got Vitamin C poisoning and had to go to the hospital for overdosing on it.

Another suggestion to get rid of the cold is boil LOTS of ginger into a soup and drink it, chew on the ginger really good while things are hot. Before you do that, try to work out a bit too. After doing all of that, when your body sweats, change to a different outfit and keep staying warm instead of doing things to cool yourself off.

That's the traditional asian way of getting rid of a cold and it works all the time.
