Please Help Hepatitis C Need Help finding non-responsive treatment?

A friend of mine was diagniosed with Hep C several years ago. The Interfeuron has long stopped working. He is diabetic on top of things. He is thinking of going to the center in Gainsville FL for help since they are supposed to be the best in his area...please help me with any info that could help him. He eats right, works out, and was given a bad blood transfusion more then two decades ago. I need to know what to do for him - as I feel we have tried and it has not worked - all info will be appreciated. Bless you -

Please Help Hepatitis C Need Help finding non-responsive treatment?
I was diagnosed 10 years ago and i was surfing web to find answers and came across a page of a man who was telling his story and said something about a herb that really helped called Milk Thistle ,I ran to local Wal- Mart and got some , Some of symptoms were out of control, levels way too high ,my levels are real good now, still using it , swear by it , Try it, I,ll Pray For u on your Quest.
Reply:Gainesville has wonderful doctors (as does Mayo in Jacksonville) He will be in good hands :-) The correct spelling for the nonpegylated interferon is INFERGEN if you want to google it. It is FDA approved for nonresponders (along with the Ribavirin of course). I am also in Florida and have many friends that have been to both places (Shands and Mayo) for treatment and for transplants. A link to the Infergen site is: http://www.infergen.com/wt/page/home Tell your friend good luck! Many of us out here that treatment has failed. I know some that cleared with Infergen and some that did not. There are new meds (protease and polymerase inhibitors) coming down the pipeline but they are a few years off. You can find out about new meds at: http://www.hcvadvocate.org/hepatitis/hep...

Shands has a clinical trial going on right now with VX-950. Maybe your friend can get into it!

Peace!
Reply:the latest treatment for those who failed interferon is called infergon. when used in combination with ribavirin, it has raised the percentage of viral clearance in the harder to treat genotypes 1a and 1b's to 33%. Infergon has less side effects. The downside to it is that it is not in a time released form, meaning, your friend would have to do a daily injection.

If he had viral load drops really well the first time around, he has a great chance of having a sustained viral response to infergon.

As for milk thislte-this is the only proven beneficial herb out there for those with high enzymes-(alt and ast levels) but is not a cure. It does not affect the virus persay, but alt and ast levels, which can be responsible for cancer cell formation and growth.

He should refrain from alcohol-even rubbing alcohol, cut down on sodium and sugars as well as artificial sugar, iron foods and vitamins (most multi vitamins have iron).

He should drink teas and coffee unless he has panic attacks in which he should cut down on caffiene. Water is best.

Adhere to a diet based for diabetes type 2.

If he wants something with sugar have him purchase Stevia, found in GNC-it is sweet yet not a sugar nor is it artificial sweetener.

Good luck!
Reply:Go see Dr. Everson at University of Colorado, Denver
Reply:I have Hep C and was non-responsive to the first treatment of 48 weeks, and doing 72 weeks now, the interferon doesnt "stop" working, but if just one virus cell is alive at the end of treatment they replicate like crazy, for those that are truely unresponive, the protocol is interfergon and rebetrol, for a complete and accurate list of the newest treatments go to http://www.clinicaloptions.com/Hepatitis... you must register and in some place they ask you what type of Doctor you are, just scroll down to other, at the end of these on line classes you will know more about the disease and treatment than your Doc.
Reply:I dont know what it is or where it can be found but I heard od a herbal remedy, so check out hollisic web sites.
