A/C Help??

My mom owns a rest and the a/c has a leak in it. Her friend is gonna fix it and some 1 told him your gonna need so many units of freon after its fixed , and hes trying to figure out what units are.. can sum1 help plzz??

A/C Help??
unless he is licensed by the epa to buy and sell freon he will not be able to get none to fix air conditioner....freon is measured in pounds and ounces not units....if he has to fix a leak he will have to evacuate whatever freon is still in there fix leak, pull vacmun on unit and recharge it with the amount of freon listed on the condensing unit plus extra for the line sets....
Reply:Freon is measured in pounds usually.
Reply:If the a/c has been leaking refrigerant and the leak is repaired, it will need more refrigerant added to replace the amount that was lost. How much it will need depends on how much leaked out.

Whoever told him "so many units" was just generalizing because he didn't know the exact amount needed, he didn't mean that it was sold in something specifically called "units."

You should be able to find freon in 12-ounce cans or some other size. Buy as much as needed to replace the amount that leaked out.
Reply:Refrigerant is measured by weight, ounces and pounds. It sounds like he is thinking of replacing your AC unit rather than sealing the leak and recharging the system.
