My C drive has 18 gb and only 8 gb is used but in the propeties it shows the 11 gb is used ! help????

my c drive has 8 GB and my dacument+ windows files+ Programs are totaly about 8 GB and there no other hidden files or some thing on my drive, but in propeties it says 11 gb is used, i tried disk defragment and cleanup and it didn't help.


i know that the solution is to format the drive but i need to know what is happening so i can prevent from happenin again!


by the way my computer also restarts while playing a game or installing it! but earlier that didn't used to happen? are the problems related?? plzzzzz helpppp!!!!!!!!!!

The rest is bieng used by the system. You can re-install if you want but it will just get the same way again.


If you need more space, buy a larger hard drive.

are you sure you only have 18 gb?


what version of operating system are you using? can you restore your computer to a date before your problem showed up?
Reply:load a good antivirus......and defragment ur c drive
Reply:you might be victim of a virus. Google "Hijackthis" program and use it to list all running critters. Just click on Scan and see who is behind the scenes. Check the ones that look suspicious and click Fix it. This may not work if you have a RootKit virus.


Or get a Virus software !!!!
Reply:Windows allocates 10% of your disk space of any drive for Recycle Bin as default. Check in the properties of your recycle bin. Besides this there could be page file on the same drive. This you shall identify, by getting into System Properties (Right click My Computer, click properties), click Advanced Tab, click Settings under Performance section, click Advanced Tab in the resultant dialog, and click Change in the Virtual memory section. Hope this helps.
