Now and then i get a message pop up 'your system is low on virtual memory'. I've been told that i need to defrag my p.c. (sorry can't spell) and clean up my hardrive. I have done this and still it does not work! Help please please please!

P.c trouble help!!!?
Your hard drive seems low on space, which is why your virtual memory has run out.

Do these.

Run a spy-ware program if you have one.

Run anti virus if you have one.

Run Disk Cleanup, found in Accessories/System Tools. Check all the options there and get rid of all these unwanted files.

Remove any and all programs you don't use.

Delete unneeded emails if you use Outlook Express or others on your computer.

Run De-frag, it may take hours to complete.

Does it run faster?

If not, a clean re-installation will be needed, as long as you have the original OS disc for the computer. You have to maintain your computer on a regular basis.
Reply:OS = Operating System disc

Windows 98, Me, Xp et al Report It

Reply:if your PC is low on virtual memory you most llikely have some programs running that is taking up memory also how much space is left on your hard drive when your hard starts running out of space it slows your PC down alot if you have less then 15 % of your hard drive left start deleteing things off it that you don't need and remove programs you no longer use then go and defrag agian once you done doing that
Reply:your laptop needs a portion of the hard disk to use as virtual memory, if you are encroaching on that part you will have probs

can you get a usb hard drive and transfer about half the drive over?
Reply:Usually that message means that your running out of space on your C drive, try delteing alot of stuff, and emptying your recycle bin. Can cause the problems you describe easily.
Reply:It is recommended that you re-install windows once a year. it could be that you have too many programs on your computer and that your hard drive can't keep up with what you are using your computer for because of the age. Anti-virus programs slow down your computer alot. Norton Anti-virus is the worst for slowing down your computer. only anti-virus program i use on my computer is AVG free Edition. it works well enough for the amount i do on the internet. but i think that after 2 years you should re-install windows on your computer.
Reply:you need to run anti virus, defrag computer, remove unwanted files and programmes, clean up the desktop icons and do a disk clean up, if all that fails reset your computer to factory settings which will mean you loose everything but it should work normally.
