hi,I am varun n i want to upgrade my P.C. for playing "new gen. games"
I am currently using Processor:-P4-2.6GHz,Motherboard-845,Twi... and nvidia Geforce graphic card-FX-5500.
As i am neither able to play games with their all special effects on nor at higer screen resolutions,so i have finally decided to upgrade my P.C.
I need ur kind help regarding following topics:-
1)Whether to go for Nividia or ATI in graphic card?
2)What are the various high end cards graphic cards available in AGP version in "INDIA "and for how much and from where to buy them at best prices????
3)If i buy i high end AGP-graphic card like ATI-1950PRO,would my current configuration would be able to run cool games(with some loss in reality-OFCOURSE)???
4)The prices of:-8800gts(320mb), 8800gts(640mb)and ATI-1950XT(or should i wait for DX10 cards to be officially launched in INDIA and ATI's dx10 cards yet to be launched)
plz help me with all these problems!!!!!!!!
Help in upgrading my P.C.?
Hi Varun
You do have a slightly outdated system - but if you do not have the budget for a new PC here's what you can work around with
but before I answer your questions
Whats the RAM that you have?
I'd recommend atleast a 2Gb stick @ 667Mhz (does your Mobo FSB support 800 Mhz?)
But if money is not a big issue - go for Intels Quad Core Extreme editions - they are almost high end stuff - but not high value for money - the desktops - even if assembled - will cost you around 1.25 lakh rupees!!
For the price / value proposition - Nvidia is better - they've just come out with their GDDR3 stuff - which should be enough for you - 7950 GT - 256 Mb (around 10K at Nehru place, Delhi)
your old system will be terribly strained by the really high end graphics cards and you'll need a lot of coolers / fans for that!!
Most games will be now be designed for dual / multi core processors - so move to an AThlon 64 X2 4400+ processor soon.. and an SLI Mobo - since you can have two graphic cards Crossfired.. you can also have two RAM sticks -each of 2Gb @667 or 800 Mhz.. that should add a lot of fire to your games..
But if you are not short of resources - you can look at Intels Quad Core machines with their Extreme editions - these will cost you around 1.25 to 1.4 lakh rupees - to have assembled in India. Not a Value for Money proposition
Reply:The current configuration itself is good for gaming most of the games, but you haven't mentioned about your motherboard, nowadays PCI-Express is the best. So while go for buying hefty graphics card buy a good motherboard which has PCI-Express slot. The difference in AGP is 8x and PCI-Express is 16x. I hope this could help you in future gaminig. Sorry though i don't now the exact price of your mentioned graphics cards.
Reply:if you are serious in upgrading your comp you should pretty much built a new comp.......you should at least have a mobo with pci express instead of agp!!!! pci is the latest graphics interface. agp is only 4-8x while pci express is 16x!! your mobo should also have ddr2 ram. you can get a decently fast core 2 duo processor for $300
as far as a graphics card...if you wait till the new cards are released they will be very expensive till they drop in price. new gen games are only going to increase in hardware requirements so you will need some room to breath. also if you wait for the newer cards they most likely will not be agp. if you are serious into gaming and want full performance ex: "for games like FEAR" at insane graphics get a crossfire or SLI setup (using two cards at the same time)
